The Moorestown Service Club Council, comprised of the Y Service Club, the Lion’s Club and Rotary Clubs, recently announced that Douglas Sell has been named as the 2012 Citizen of the Year award recipient.
Sell was unanimously chosen by the Service Club Council for his years of service to a number of local organizations, including the First United Methodist Church’s Adult Choir and Mission Committee, the Moorestown School Board, the United Way of Burlington County, the Burlington County Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Moorestown’s Low and Moderate Income Housing Committee.
Currently, Sell serves as treasurer of the board of directors for the Interfaith Hospitality Network. An active member of the Moorestown Rotary Lunch Club since 1984, he has previously served as president and treasurer. Sell is also a founder and advisory board member for Urban Boatworks, teaching inner-city Camden youth the craft of wooden boat building as a means to develop skills and values.
Sell is a self-employed certified public accountant with an office on North Church Street in Moorestown.
Since 1954, the Moorestown Service Club Council has been making the Citizen of the Year Award, to honor a Moorestown citizen who has significantly contributed to the quality of life of the community and its citizens through varied community service activities. The Moorestown Service Club Council chooses the Citizen of the Year recipient based on nominations made by Moorestown citizens.
Previous Citizen of the Year award winners includes David Schill in 2011, Jack and Micki Ginsberg in 2010, and Ann Baiada in 2009.
Sell will be honored at the 59th Annual Citizen of the Year Dinner scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 1 at The Merion in Cinnaminson. Proceeds from the event benefit local charities.
