Mayor Bernie Platt honored members of the department at last week’s council meeting.
Many officers were on hand to thank their colleagues.
Police officers Kevin Guldin, James Shields and Christopher Wernig were honored for responding to an unconscious male earlier this year and performing CPR.
Because of their prompt response, Platt said, the officers were able to save the man’s life. He was then transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Police officer Edward Walto Jr. was honored for responding to a 21-month-old infant who was not breathing.
Platt credited Walto for his immediate response, which saved the baby’s life.
Police officer Sean Scarlett was honored for delivering CPR to an unconscious 68-year-old woman found lying on the floor.
Scarlett restored the woman’s heartbeat, Platt said. Her condition then stabilized at the hospital.
Cinnaminson Police Detective Raymond J. Shaw III, Cherry Hill dispatcher Adam Berg, police officer Stephen Warren and Wernig were honored for helping to save a man’s life.
Berg received a call last year reporting that a man had threatened to commit suicide. Wernig responded to the man’s residence, Platt said, but did not find the man there. A note was found detailing his plan, but not where to find him. Berg contacted the man, who would not give his location, but he stayed on the line with him for two hours, Platt said.
Wernig jumped in to assist with radio and phone communication.
Warren tracked the man’s phone GPS location and assembled a search based on satellite photos.
Cherry Hill Police contacted Shaw to search Cinnaminson, where the man worked.
The man was not found there, so Shaw widened his search area and found the man by the Delaware River, inside his vehicle, which was filled with carbon monoxide, Platt said.
“Detective Shaw’s diligent search and heroic actions saved this man’s life. And all of you were part of a team of dispatchers involved in investigating this incident, and were instrumental in preventing the tragic death of a desperate individual,” Platt said.
