3 gas stations charged with illegal pricing after Hurricane Irene

Three gas stations are charged with tinkering with their prices way too much right after Hurricane Irene, according to the Gloucester County Times.

Gas stations in Cherry Hill, Trenton and Rio Grande allegedly raised gasoline prices many times within a 24-hour period, in violation of state law, the state Division of Consumer Affairs said Friday.

The Times said investigators are not charging the stations with price gouging. But gas stations are not allowed to raise prices more than once in a 24-hour period.

The station cited in Cherry Hill was Lukoil on Kings Highway (Rt. 41). Other stations were Delta on Broad Street in Trenton, and Citgo on Route 47 in Rio Grande.

These are the first substantiated price violations related to Hurricane Irene. The state Division of Consumer Affairs has received 103 consumer complaints about illegal pricing after the hurricane, but 74 have been determined to be unfounded so far.
