A Willingboro man has been charged in a July vehicular accident that caused the death of an Evesham man.
Keith Buxton, 56, was killed on July 29, when a car driven by 41-year-old Charles A. James crashed into him. According to the Burlington County Prosecutor, Buxton was working on the engine of a disabled SUV on the right side shoulder of I-295 in Manfield Township when James crashed into the vehicle. The impact threw Buxton over the guardrail and down an embankment, killing him.
Buxtonâs daughter, Kristen, 25, who was standing next to the vehicle, suffered an injured wrist and facial lacerations. Michael Cericola, age 25, of Staten Island, N.Y., who was in the driverâs seat of the disabled vehicle at the time of the collision, suffered back pain, facial bruises and lacerations to his knee. James was not seriously injured.
Cericola had called the Buxtons for assistance after his vehicle became disabled. They drove to help him and had parked their vehicle adjacent to Cericolaâs on the passenger side. Buxtonâs wife, Donna, was in the familyâs vehicle at the time of the collision but was not injured.
Toxicology tests determined that James was impaired at the time of the collision, and he was charged on Sept. 6 with vehicular homicide and two counts of assault by auto. New Jersey State Police took James into custody at his residence on Sept. 9.
Bail was set at $125,000.
