Medford accepting registrations for fall flag football

The Medford Township Department of Recreation is currently accepting registrations for its NFL Flag Football Fall League. This program provides young players a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in this continuous action sport while learning lessons in teamwork.

Launched in 1996, the NFL Flag Football program is designed to educate young people about football while emphasizing participation and sportsmanship. Players learn skills and lessons that help them succeed both on and off the field.

Boys and girls ages 5 through 14 (grades K-8) are invited to participate.

No previous football experience is required. Players are placed on teams according to their birth date.

New to Medford’s program is a developmental division for boys and girls ages 5 to 7 years old. This division will focus on skills and drills and ultimately lead up to game situations. Children ages 5 and 6 years will play in this division. Players that are 7 years old during the fall season may play in the developmental division or they may opt to play in the regular division.

All activity takes place on Saturdays, beginning with 30 minutes of practice and followed by a 40-minute game. Games are expected to be played between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. beginning mid-September and continuing through mid-November. However, this schedule is tentative and depends on the number of registrations received. The schedule will be finalized once registration is closed.

Registrations must be completed and paid for by September 9, 2011. The registration fee is $60 for residents and $80 for non-residents of Medford Township. All players will receive an official NFL Flag Football reversible jersey and a flag belt as part of their registration.
