Mayor Bernie Platt urges local businesses to close during the hurricane

Mayor Bernie Platt regarding the township’s preparation for Hurricane Irene:

At this time the Cherry Hill Department of Public Works and Office of Emergency Management have been working for the last 48 hours preparing for Hurricane Irene. DPW has been clearing all inlets and headwalls, stocking up on sand bags, maintaining a 400 ton supply of sand, making sure all vehicles are serviced and that all fuel storage units are filled.

The Police Department and Cherry Hill Fire Department have cancelled all leave this weekend and will be fully staffed for this impending event. Also, DPW will have all hands on deck and be prepared with a fully operational apparatus to combat the storm when it touches down on Saturday night. I have called in essential personnel and the Mayor’s Office will be operating during the duration of the storm, and residents are encouraged to call with any questions.

I am encouraging all major retailers to close up shop during the storm and that residents only call 911 if they have a real emergency. Other questions and concerns about the weather event can be addressed to the Mayor’s Office at 488–7878 or DPW at 424–4422.
