Tour the Historic Burlington County Prison Museum for its bicentennial celebration

According to the Burlington County newsletter you can help celebrate the bicentennial of the Historic Burlington County Prison Museum by taking a self- guided tour of the national landmark.

Located in downtown Mount Holly, the prison was designed by renowned architect Robert Mills and completed in 1811. Featuring vaulted ceilings of poured concrete and brick and stone construction, it was the oldest continually used prison in the United States at the time of its closing in 1965.

Today, the prison is considered a fine example of innovative planning and the growing notion of social responsibility to rehabilitate criminals. Visitors to the museum will see numerous artifacts and exhibits on display.

The prison museum is open for self-guided tours Thursdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays, noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students and seniors, 55 and older. Children under the age of five are admitted free. Guided and group tours are available upon request. Closed on legal holidays.
