Cupcakes against cancer

Best Selling cookbook author and well-known cupcake guru, Alan Richardson, will join local cupcake enthusiasts as they fight to help find a cure for pediatric cancer at the next “Iron Cupcake Challange” on July 24 at Pinsetters Bar and Bowl in Pennsauken.

Bakers competing in the event are excited to present their cupcakes before Richardson, who will serve as judge, knowing he has been featured with cupcake partner Karen Tack on The Martha Stewart Show, The Rachael Ray Show, The Paula Deen Show, The Early Show, and many visits to the “Today Show” as well as on numerous covers of the most popular magazines. Richardson, along with Karen Tack, has published two wildly popular books entitled “Hello, Cupcake” and “What’s New, Cupcake” and started a cupcake revolution for bakers of all levels.

Contestants for the upcoming Iron Cupcake Challenge on July 24 are perfecting their cupcake recipes and getting ready to thrown their oven mitts in the ring as they compete for the title of the next “Iron Cupcake Champion,” all the while raising funds and awareness to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, whose primary goal is to help find a cure for children with pediatric cancer.

In the past, this event has raised over $2,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand and has been widely touted as one of the funnest, tastiest and worthwhile charitable baking competitions in the area. Kati Angelini, owner of Kati’s Kupcakes in Moorestown, hosts the event and hopes to have a large crowd of bakers and “eaters!”

Folks of all levels are encouraged to enter the event which features cash prizes for the top scorers and bragging rights as the new “Iron Cupcake Champion.” In addition, many local restaurants, sports teams and merchants have donated prizes for the ever popular silent auction that will be held as well. Autographed items from the Philadelphia 76ers, tickets to the Philadelphia Phillies, vouchers for entrance to Philadelphia museums and waterparks, dining certificates to local restaurants and much much more will be auctioned off to help raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

Entrants in the baking competition are required to pay a fee of $25 for adults and $15 for kids ages 12 and under. Onlookers and guests pay $5 per person. That price also allows guests and onlookers to bid on auction items, watch the competition and sample the delicious prize worthy cupcakes.
