Burlington County Farm Fair coming with some history

By Katrina Grant

The Burlington County Farm Fair is returning to the area and bringing some history with it.

According to the Burlington County newsletter, the Office of the Burlington County Historian, the Springfield Historical Society and several other historical societies are pairing up together to host History Faire at the County Fair.

“This is the first year that we are doing something like this,” Richard Toone, president of the Springfield Historical Society said. “There are going to be 14 different groups or historical societies. We are either going to set up one large 30 by 60 tent to house everyone in or two 30 by 30 tents.

This year marks the 150-year anniversary of the Civil War. In honor of that, each historical society will have events or interactive activities corresponding to its role in Civil War history.

“The county is going to have a tent set up and have a children’s interactive activity set up. Some places are going to have Civil War reenactments happening,” Toone said.

The Springfield Historical Society will be selling a booklet about the history of Springfield for $2 and several other historical societies and groups will be offering booklets and brochures.

“For two years we have been working on a booklet about Springfield, but, when we heard about this, we wanted to put something small out,” Toone said. “So we are going to put the small booklet for sale.”

Since the area is an agricultural area, and it is a farm fair, there will be 24 establishments people can buy from directly.

“There’s going to be place that deal with equine activities, sheep and several other places people can go for products and services,” Toone said.

The Burlington County Farm Fair will take place July 20 to 23 at the new county fairgrounds at Route 206 and Jacksonville-Jobstown Road. For more information about the History fair visit the Burlington County website or www.burlcohistorian.com.
