Evesham Police to residents: Plan ahead for Fourth of July

Plan Ahead for Independence Day.

Residents are asked to plan ahead for a safe and memorable Independence Day celebration in Evesham.

For the forth year, Fourth of July events in Evesham will start with a 5-K Run beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Main Street, followed by the Children’s Bike Parade at 10:30 a.m., and the official parade at 11 a.m. Main Street in Marlton will be closed to through traffic until the conclusion of the parade.

The Cherokee High School event will begin later on that day at 6 p.m. With respect to parking, we urge those who can walk, bike, ride share, or be dropped off at the event to do so in order to minimize vehicular traffic. Also, it’s important to be respectful of the residential neighborhoods surrounding the venue.

In particular, we ask visitors to not block driveways, double-park, block intersections or hinder emergency access in anyway. Finally, attendees are asked to cooperate with the police managing traffic during the event.

At the conclusion of the event a large volume of vehicles will be leaving the area at once. We are asking for your cooperation and patience, as delays are likely. Similar to traffic delays experienced when leaving a professional sporting event or a concert.

To help visitors and residents better plan their routes through the township, the following points highlight the traffic management plan for the evening of July 4 in-and-around Cherokee High School:

• Marlton Parkway will be closed to traffic during the actual fireworks display. The road will be closed from approximately 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.

• Those exiting the Cherokee parking lot facing Willow Bend will only be able to turn left toward the Main Street area.

• Those exiting the Cherokee parking lot facing Tomlinson Mill Road will only be able to turn right toward the Marlton Parkway and Taunton Lake Road area.

• Immediately after the fireworks, vehicles heading west bound on Taunton Lake Road at the intersection Kings Grant Drive/Barton Run Boulevards will be detoured onto Kings Grant Drive or Barton Run Boulevards until traffic from the event dissipates.

Please respect the rights of others and refrain from bringing alcohol or personally owned fireworks to the event. The use of fireworks by anyone other than properly trained and licensed professionals is illegal and dangerous. The police department will be aggressively enforcing the laws regarding fireworks to ensure the safety of all attendees.
