Burlington County looking to assist senior in purchasing fruits and vegetables

Seniors at least 60 years old, who live in Burlington County, and are income eligible, may be able to receive vouchers worth $20 to purchase locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs from our Farmer’s Market. Proof of residency and age are required. The Burlington County Office on Aging is working with the New Jersey Senior Farmer’s Market Program to provide these vouchers to eligible local senior citizens. Distribution of the vouchers will begin now and end in September pending availability.

“With prices on the rise each day, the Farmer’s Market vouchers can help seniors stretch their food dollars,” Burlington County Freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien said. “Not only do these vouchers help our senior citizens have access to locally grown produce, but they help support our farmers as well.”

The New Jersey Senior Farmer’s Market Program provides a nutritional benefit to seniors in order to enhance their diets and to bring awareness and provide opportunity to expand the sales of locally grown produce.

Vouchers are only valid at approved Farmer’s Market Locations. A list of locations is available at the Office on Aging. Vouchers are valid from now until November 30. There are a limited number of vouchers and there is no guarantee that enough vouchers will be available for all applicants.

For more information, how to apply and income eligibility requirements, call the Burlington County Office on Aging at 265–5069 or call toll free 1–877–222–3737.
