Tennis team must be butter, because it’s on a roll

Whether it be a tournament or just a regular season match, the Haddonfield Bulldogs varsity tennis team continued its win streak this week as it won a regional tournament and a regular season match against a conference foe.

Head Coach Jeff Holman reported that the Bulldogs picked up a victory at the Colt Tennis Classic 2011 on Sunday, May 1.

In first singles action Max Oberholtzer of Haddonfield, defeated Nate Manetas of Cumberland, 6–1, 6–1, but then later lost to Matt Worosz of Pinelands 6–2, 6–4. In second singles action Luke Grabiak of Haddonfield defeated Matt Riches of Seneca, 6–0, 6–0, Michael Kara of Burlington Township, 6–0, 6–0, and finally Jason Riggins of Millville, 6–0, 7–5.

In third singles Matt Godlewski of Haddonfield defeated Bobby Kara of Burlington Township, 6–1, 6–0, Sam Achah of Pinelands 6–0, 6–1; and finally Matt Drummond of Pennsville, 6–1, 7–6 (7–4).

In doubles action the first doubles team of Isaac Anderson and Sean Campbell of Haddonfield defeated Justin Ranger and Nate Balcerkiewiecz of Seneca, 6–0, 6–0; defeated Nick Lamberto and Morris Lamberto of Paul VI, 6–0, 7–5; and finally defeated Sam Stafford and Tyler Ascenzi of Pennsville, 6–0, 6–0.

In second doubles the Haddonfield team of Anthony Celenza and Max Prescott defeated Brandon Green and Fred DeMary of Millville, 6–0, 6–0 and John Vallari and Michael Rogers, Paul VI, 6–2, 6–1. Also, Max Prescott and Brandon Coyne of Haddonfield defeated Blake Boswell and Steven Cirri of Cumberland, 6–1, 6–0.

Haddonfield won the tournament by winning 13 matches overall, one in the first singles division and three in each of the other four divisions, Holman said.

The Bulldogs rode the tournament momentum into its match against Lindenwold High School yesterday. The Bulldogs improved to 15–1 on the season after not dropping a single set the entire day.

The lineup was changed a bit, as the first singles action featured Campbell, who defeated Jaime Bonilla 6–1, 6–1. Second singles featured Anderson of Haddonfield, who defeated Jean Carlo Bonilla 6–0, 6–0. Finally, the third singles match featured Prescott of Haddonfield, who defeated Darius Still 6–1, 6–3.

In doubles action, the first doubles team of Matt Fleming and Tommy Fewer defeated Montez Smith and Larry Hill 6–2, 6–0. The second doubles team of Joe LaMaina and Charlie Carr defeated David Bonilla and Douglas Bardales 6–1, 6–0.

The Bulldogs will face Paulsboro High School today at 4 p.m.
