Moorestown man is letting you “think pink” for free and whenever you want

By AUBRIE GEORGE

Jamil Glenn is a motion picture, music video, and commercial director who wants you to “think pink” with a feature film that he and his colleagues have affectionately nicknamed “the little movie that could”.

“Real Men Wear Pink” is a 78-minute motion picture that Glenn, a Moorestown resident, calls a “hopeful comedy”. The story follows five, seemingly unconnected characters in short film style.

“You don’t see a connection with all of the characters during the movie,” Glenn, who directed the film, said. “What happens is at the end of the movie, everything is connected and you see that there is a reason why they’re all wearing pink.”

But the pink theme doesn’t end with the plot; Glenn and the motion picture company LIMHAJ Films have decided to take on breast cancer awareness and will use some of the movie’s proceeds to make a charitable contribution to the Bernice Bullock Breast Cancer Foundation.

“Every movie I do from now on, I want to be able to link what the movie is about to a cause, provide some type of contribution to a cause,” Glenn said. “Even if the movie doesn’t make a large amount of money, every time you hit our Web site it’s a reminder about it.”

What makes the film more unique is the way in which you can watch it. With the current state of the movie business leaning away from movie theaters drawing in crowds and making money, Glenn decided to try out a new distribution tactic — he’s providing the movie online and for free.

“We’re experiencing a shift in the way people view movies,” Glenn said, noting that most major companies are providing content online and on demand, and that theaters are seeing less revenue because of it. “I think the whole theater process is going to go out the window and eventually, people are going to be able to watch new releases and films that are just hitting theaters immediately on their TV or computer.”

Glenn has been making movies for over a decade, but this is his first feature film. He’s been making short films for the past 14 years. One of his latest short films, called “Cold Murder”, got national attention and won awards at the Tribecca Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. After that success, he got into making commercials and music videos. His ads have appeared on MTV, A & E, and CBS. Even with a successful career in creating commercials, he wanted to get back into making films, so he started on “Real Men Where Pink”.

The making of “Real Men Where Pink” started in 2008 and took until 2011 to finish. That, combined with financial backing from Glenn himself and other personal sources, as well as new distribution and philanthropic aspects, has made the process unique for Glenn and the movie one that its makers think could be really big.
