Samaritan Hospice teams up with an unlikely partner

Representatives from PATCO Cares and the Samaritan Hospice in Marlton partnered together during Volunteer Appreciation Week earlier in April.

The groups educated commuters about volunteering and hospice care with the help of Samaritan volunteers Barbara Shils, Joan Knisell, Ellie Peterson, Gwen Knight and Elaine Gross during the evening rush hour at the Woodcrest PATCO Station earlier this month. They were joined by PATCO Security Officer Maria Rodriguez, PATCO Cares Coordinator Heather Still, Samaritan Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Wenner, and Samaritan Volunteer Manager Sally Cezo.

PATCO’s community service program also included the placement of 2,500 postcards describing Samaritan’s services and volunteer opportunities on all train seats leaving the Lindenwold Station for Philadelphia from 7 to 9 a.m. that day.

Samaritan Hospice is the regional leader for hospice care, palliative medicine, grief support and counseling, geriatric care management and end-of-life education and advocacy. In addition to hospice services covered by Medicare, Medicaid, VA and private insurers, Samaritan’s healthcare services offer a range of options earlier in the care continuum.
