Eggleton wants to be your Freeholder

Sick of seeing a continual increase in property taxes, longtime Medford resident Marion Eggleton has announced intentions to run for Burlington County Freeholder.

“I have had extensive experience in both government and business and feel that I can offer assistance in better managing our government and eliminating the special interest expenses that waste our tax dollars,” Eggleton said in a letter announcing his candidacy.

Eggleton, who has served Medford on the township’s economic development commission, calls herself a senior advocate who has witnessed how policies are forcing longtime residents to leave their ancestral homes for areas of the country that are more senior friendly.

“Those of you who have read my letters to the editor over the years know that I have tried to express my opinion against what I consider to be injustice and or wastes of taxpayer dollars,” Eggleton said.

In an E-mail announcing his candidacy, Eggleton included a list of pledges:

When elected I make the following pledge to each of you that;

  • I will never vote for a tax increase on the residents of Burlington County
  • I will work to eliminate any pay to play practices, period. No more trading contracts for contributions
  • I will manage to get the best return on the taxpayer’s dollar.
  • I will not be a rubber stamp to politically connected law firms.
  • I will thoroughly investigate every proposed action to earn your support.
  • I will work tirelessly for the residents of each of Burlington County community to see that your hard earned tax dollars are wisely spent,
  • As a senior, I will be an advocate for minimizing your taxes while efficiently providing the services which you require and deserve,
  • As a former Army captain and Veteran, I will work for the servicemen and women along side with Veteran organizations to see that you and your families get the respect and services you deserve for your service to our great nation.
  • I will not accept the support of special interests that may demand favorable treatment of proposals adverse to the general good.
  • I will not vote for the purchase of open space unless it has been deemed to be upland (not wetland) and offered at fair market value.
  • I will only serve the term for which I am elected and not use this position as a stepping stone to higher office.
