Evesham Education Foundation forced to cancel tournament

By ROBERT LINNEHAN

A three-on-three basketball tournament was cancelled yesterday due to lack of interest from the township. David Silver, Evesham Education Foundation spokesperson, said the event had to be cancelled because of a lack of registered teams for the March 26 tournament.

Luckily no money will be lost due to the cancellation, but Silver said the group invested a lot of time and energy into putting the event together.

Registration fees and advertisements would have helped fund the three programs EEF currently funds in the Evesham K-8 School District.

“We fully fund three programs in the district that taxpayers and the budget does not,” Silver said. “We need to keep having fund-raising events so we can continue to pay for these three programs for the long term. For the short term, we are OK.”

The EEF still plans to hold its 14th annual golf fund-raiser on June 13 and will continue to plan its annual wine tasting event. Silver said there are several new ideas in the works for the fall as well.

For the past several years the EEF has used its incoming donations to fund the Genesis and CAPPS program in the school district. A third program came this past June — the Metamorphosis Program — after it had been cut by the district for the 2010–2011 budget.

The EEF is an independent non-profit 501©(3), nonpolitical organization that was formed to enhance and enrich the academic experience for all of the students in Evesham Township schools, according to the group’s Web site. It was formed in 1995.

Visit the group’s Web site at www.eveshameducationfoundation.org for more information on upcoming events and programs.
