Winter sports are over, bring on the spring

The Cherokee High School winter sports schedule has come to an end, but the spring season is just beginning. Here are the teams, dates, times, and locations of each varsity sport for the week of March 7 to March 14.

The girls basketball had their season come to a close this past Saturday, losing in a rematch from earlier in the season to Cherry Hill High School East. Cherokee lost to its fellow Olympic Conference team by a score of 42–39. Sara Farrell led the squad with 18 points.

Cherokee lost in the semifinals of the NJSIAA tournament. It was the third time this season that they have lost to the Cherry Hill High School East team.

Also, earlier in the week on Friday the Cherokee varsity wrestling team (25–5) participated in the individual tournaments in Atlantic City.

Ben Fanjoy defeated Pat Eichner for a win by a score of 2–0. Timothy Swanson was defeated in the first round by pin by High Point’s William Smith.

Two days later on March 6 Fanjoy wrestled against James Dugan of Becton-Wallington. Fanjoy defeated
Dugan by a score of 3–2.

This week the Cherokee High School varsity golf team will practice Monday through Friday.

On Monday, March 14 the boys varsity baseball team will travel to Williamstown High School at 4 p.m. for its first scrimmage. Also on the same day the girls softball team will scrimmage against Williamstown High School as well. Finally, the girls varsity lacrosse team will scrimmage against Collingwood High School at home.
