Lenape Regional BOE approves tax levy increase

By ROBERT LINNEHAN

The Lenape Regional High School District board of education approved a preliminary 2011–2012 budget last week, which will see the district’s tax levy increase by more than 1.6 percent.

The total 2011–2012 budget is $143,031,192 which represents a 3.64% increase from the current year. The tax levy will increase 1.68%, resulting in the tax impact outlined below. A more in-depth discussion of budget and tax impact will occur during the hearing, which will take place at the Administration Building, 93 Willow Grove Road, Shamong, New Jersey at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23.

Evesham Township residents — whose children typically attend Cherokee High School after graduating the K-8 district — will see a tax levy increase of a little more than 2-cents.

For the average assessed homeowner with a house valued at $276,100, this increase will mean about a $57 increase for the school property tax in 2011–2012.

The budget process was hit a snag yesterday, as Lenape Regional High School District Business Administrator Jim Hager reported that the district experienced technical difficulties with the budgeting software.
