“Medford Celebrates” announces events for spring

Medford Celebrates, Inc, a special events foundation that has been established in the face of the budgetary shortfalls and cut backs, has announced spring events that have already been coordinated as well as some that are still being finalized.

The group’s purpose is to raise funds and public support for major Medford Township public events that require township services.

The Foundation intends to develop a mix of fund-raising strategies that complement those of current Medford nonprofit events and organizations. Their immediate goal is to restore Medford’s Independence Day celebration and fireworks with a “Save the Fireworks” campaign.

So far, the foundation has coordinated the following spring fundraising activities:

  • A bus trip to Resorts Casino March 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.: The bus will depart from the Bob Bende Soccer Complex. A fee of $25 includes a $5 casino voucher and light refreshments on the bus.
  • Tickets to Philadelphia Phillies vs. Milwaukee Brewers on April 19 at 7:05 p.m.. The tickets will be sold at their face value of $28. Seats will be located in one section in either the 300 or 400 level seating areas.

The Foundation also expects details to be announced soon on two other spring events:

  • A cooking demonstration on with former White House Chefs at the Medford Lakes Country Club on April 3: Residents will be able to spend a late afternoon learning from some of the most renowned chefs in America. The time and cost will be announced. Finger sandwiches and other light refreshments will be included along with a cash bar. A Chinese Auction is also being planned with items such a round of golf for four at the Medford Lakes Country Club and a set of Taylor made golf clubs.
  • A Chili Cook-off,” on May 14: This unsanctioned event, will be held during the annual “Blast from the Past Classic Car Show” along Main Street. This inaugural event will feature two categories — chefs and non-professionals. Visitors will be able to purchase tickets to sample and vote on some of the area’s best chili.
