Mayor’s message — Live Voorhees, Shop Voorhees
The Voorhees Economic Development Committee (EDC) is an advisory group established by the Township Committee whose mission is to attract businesses and industry to Voorhees and to create economic viability in terms of income growth and diversity while maintaining the personality and integrity of the community.
It also aims to support the existing businesses and industry in their continued growth and prosperity.
The goals of the EDC are to encourage resident participation, facilitate revitalization, promote efforts to encourage and attract businesses, recommend legislation for economic development promotion and provide recommendations to the Township Committee, Planning Board and Zoning Board.
“Live Voorhees — Shop Voorhees” is the slogan created by the newly formed Voorhees Business Retention and Expansion Task Force. The EDC sanctioned the Task Force, comprised of Voorhees residents and business owners, to explore ways to help Voorhees businesses attract more customers and further thrive in their existing locations.
As their first project, the task force has researched local retail shops and restaurants to create a business directory for residents and area shoppers. Featured in the online directory are 84 places to eat, nearly 100 retail stores, 80 service companies and a dozen home improvement companies. Other businesses such as banks, entertainment locales, hotels and health and fitness centers are listed in this easy to read directory. As new retail businesses come to town, the website will be updated. Hard copies of the directory are available at various locations throughout the Township, including Town Hall and the Office of Economic Development.
