SNJ Penn State alumni form scholarship fund

The Penn State Alumni Association Southern New Jersey Chapter has announced the formation of the Fellner/Ungvarsky Scholarship Fund. Association president Jay Plunk made the announcement at the groups annual social held at Tavistock Country Club. This scholarship honors Robert Fellner and John Ungvarsky for their many years of work on behalf of Penn State.

Fellner was born and raised in Maple Shade. He attended Moorestown High School and graduated from Penn State in 1967. He and his wife of 39 years, Conchita, have two children and two grandchildren. They reside in Maple Shade.

Ungvarsky was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He served honorably in the Korean War and graduated from LaSalle University. His wife, Joan, is a 1953 graduate of Penn State. They have been married for 52 years and have three children and 10 grandchildren. They reside in Cinnaminson.

This is the third scholarship fund formed by The Penn State Alumni Association Southern New Jersey Chapter. The other two are the Parent/ Gajecki Scholarship and the Michael Delo Scholarship. The Penn State Alumni Association Southern New Jersey Chapter is one of only two chapters with two fully endowed scholarship funds. In his announcement, Plunk expressed the Chapter’s desire to reach endowed status for the Fellner/Ungvarsky Scholarship in a few years. At that point, the South Jersey Chapter will stand alone among all Penn State Alumni Chapters with three endowed scholarships.

Current High School seniors who reside in Burlington, Camden or Gloucester Counties and plan to attend Penn State in the 2011–12 academic year can apply for these scholarships. Applications will be available in high school guidance offices after Feb. 17.

Contributions to the new scholarship fund can be made by check payable to the Penn State Alumni Association South Jersey Chapter, 19 Patriot Way, Hainesport, NJ 08036.
