Track team makes nationals; needs your help

The Moorestown High School Boys Track 400M relay shattered its own school record and sped to a second place finish at the NJ Meet of Champions.

Seeded 13th in the event and running in the unseeded section, Moorestown popped a remarkable 42.31, finishing 0.09 behind Delsea and 0.05 ahead of top-ranked Teaneck, both who were in the seeded section with the faster qualifiers.

With the effort, the team of junior JoJo White, junior Kamal Steward, freshman Anthony Bonnet and junior Danny MacBride ran the fastest 4x100M relay time in Burlington County in the last 22 years and the fourth fastest time ever in the county.

“This is a very talented and gifted group of young men,” said Troy Pappas, Moorestown boys track coach. “They have been fast all season but have been hampered by injuries and poor baton exchanges. Coming into the Meet of Champions, the boys knew they needed to be faster and perfect. They were both and had an amazing, unforgettable race.”

With their effort, the team qualified for the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, the high school national track championships, on June 17–19 at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro NC. Since this is considered an out-of-season competition, it cannot be paid for by Moorestown High School.

To cover competition and travel costs, the team is seeking donations from local businesses and individuals. If you would like to help, please contact Ella Anita Graham (JoJo White’s mother) at eapeele@yahoo.com.
