A new attraction for area homeowners makes its debut March 12 to 14 when the Virtua Flyers Skate Zone hosts the South Jersey Home Show, the first showcase for home improvement specialists to be held in the Camden-Burlington region.
Produced by MAC Event of Spring Lake, the show offers the latest design ideas, products and services to make every home more livable.
The end of a long winter and the waning grip of the recession are motivating many homeowners to plan spring remodeling projects.
Finally, they can visit a home improvement event right in their own backyard.
“In the past these shows were typically held on the other side of the river in Philadelphia,” says Claudio Oliveira, general manager of the Skate Zone. “This is an exciting new event and a lot of local businesses have committed to the show. We think it will appeal to our customers and local residents.”
Why visit a home show? It’s the ideal way to meet a wide array of home renovation professionals without spending precious free time on appointments with individual businesses.
There’s no substitute for a face-to-face discussion of your specific project, and the show puts nearly 200 of the region’s best companies under one roof.
Here’s where you’ll find remodeling contractors, bath and kitchen specialists, landscape architects and patio installers.
Other exhibitors focus on desirable add-ons like sunrooms, home theater systems, hot tubs and pools, custom cabinetry and new window treatments.
The recent decline in home sales means that more homeowners are improving, not moving.
The show is perfectly timed since industry experts see brighter prospects ahead for the remodeling industry, with an up tick in business predicted in the first half of this year.
According to recent studies, two-thirds of American homes are now at least 25 years old and in need of upgrades.
Nearly half of all homeowners polled want to remodel a kitchen or bath and another third hopes to add one or more new rooms to their homes.
Rising energy costs are driving demand for products that boost efficiency — state-of-the-art windows and doors, high efficiency heating and cooling systems and solar panels figure in this growing segment of the remodeling industry. The answer to heightened consumer interest is the show’s Green Zone where many of these products are on display.

• Distinctive Woodwork — Order beautiful custom cabinetry for the home, including library shelving, media centers and wall units. On display at the show is a hand-crafted bar designed for entertaining.
• Custom Windows by Robert A. Kline — Find creative drapery treatments for windows of all shapes and sizes by one of the area’s top designers.
• Bath Saver — Revitalize baths with a new finishes and custom inserts or by converting tubs to walk-in showers, ideal for older homeowners with limited mobility.
• Sea Bright Solar — Tap the power of the sun to lower energy bills. A design-install firm that specializes in residential solar panel arrays.
Show hours are 1 to 9 p.m. March 12, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 13 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 14 at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone, 601 Laurel Oak Road Voorhees. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 to 17. Kids 11 and under are free and seniors can enter for $6 on March 13 only.
