On past Veterans Days, members of the William H. Snyder American Legion Post 42 of Moorestown hosted a special ceremony to honor the men and women who have served our country with the armed forces.
This year, the Post will again honor our country’s soldiers and war veterans with a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Field on South Church Street.
The small ceremony will consist of a short speech followed by recognition of the Moorestown veterans who are listed on the monument that is at Memorial Park, Post commander Gene Clark said.
Veterans and local residents and community members are encouraged to attend the ceremony to honor soldiers who served our country.
“Moorestown is extremely grateful and proud of our veterans. With the recent death of our friend Major John Pryor, M.D. in Iraq, we are especially mindful of the incredible sacrifice of our military and their families,” Mayor Dan Roccato said. “Our freedom and quality of life is only possible because of the brave men and women who wear the uniform. Veterans are most welcome and appreciated in Moorestown.”
Earlier this year, township Council began an initiative to welcome home returning veterans who reside in Moorestown. Roccato and council have recognized several returning veterans at recent Council meetings with the presentation of a proclamation for their service to our country.
Council plans to continue this initiative by honoring returning veterans who reside in Moorestown and asks that any resident who knows a returning soldier and would like that soldier to be recognized at an upcoming Council meeting, fill out a form and submit it to the township.
Those forms ask for information about the returning soldier and they are available on the township’s Web site, www.moorestown.nj.us.
