Have a safe Halloween

By ROBERT LINNEHAN | The Cherry Hill Sun

Ghouls and goblins are looking forward to Halloween and walking throughout the township in search of their next piece of candy during the annual celebration. Trick or treating this year will be limited between the hours of 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Mayor Bernie Platt and the Cherry Hill Police Department are reminding parents to take extra precautions to ensure their children remain safe during upcoming Halloween festivities.

The trick or treating day will have a curfew for all children at 7 p.m. under the age of 18 who aren’t accompanied by an adult.

To help keep the night safe, police in marked and unmarked cars will patrol local streets on both evenings, along with fire and emergency personnel and Neighborhood Watch groups.

During the weekend, parents are reminded to keep exterior lights on throughout the night, keep pets indoors, make sure their cars are locked or in the garage, and to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity during the two days.

Finally, the police department suggested parents should have children trick-or-treat in groups, and only in familiar areas. They should also escort children of grade school age and younger.

Costumes should also avoid masks that restrict vision and if bike-riding, avoid masks completely.

Avoid hard plastic or wooden props such as daggers and swords; substitute with foam rubber, representatives said.

Also, parents should thoroughly inspect all of the candy their children bring home. Only allow children to consume candy that is unopened.

Drivers should also be aware of children as they drive through the township during the two days.
