‘Community Connections’ returns for third year

A series of Lenape District Television programs aimed at engaging students in their communities will continue into next school year, district officials said.

“Community Connections” is a series of 30-minute video segments produced by students and aired on the Lenape District’s TV channel.

After running for its second consecutive school year, district officials announced in late June the program would continue to run for a third year during the upcoming 2010–11 school year.

The program aims to highlight the lessons students learn when they seek out information from government officials and professionals in the community, district officials said.

“When you can extend the classroom beyond the physical walls out into the community, everyone benefits,” LRHSD Superintendent of Schools Emily Capella said.

In addition, district officials said that showing the series inside the classrooms captures the interest of the students because the information is coming from their peers.

Future airdates for “Community Connections” segments will be listed on the channel’s web site, which can be accessed through the district’s Web site, www.lrhsd.org.
