Council has been weighing the possibility of eliminating the police dispatch system and switching to the country’s system. The township currently employs four dispatchers who answer phones and also perform a number of other duties within the police department. Council members discussed that they could save up to $400,000 a year if the service is migrated to the county.

Also at Monday’s meeting, Council discussed the importance of the township’s shade tree department, which currently consists of two workers who are certified to handle issues with the township’s trees. Ken Ewers, acting director of the department of public works, said the two men also make significant contributions in other areas of the department. The township employs an outside service to handle larger issues pertaining to tree that two men could not handle alone. Council has been discussing the elimination of the in-house tree staff.

No official action was taken during Monday’s meeting, but Council members stated they were nearing the point of making final decisions regarding the budget.

Continuation of this week’s budget discussion will carry into a fifth budget workshop, scheduled for Monday, May 11 at 7 p.m.
