Groove on over to M’korstock

On Sunday, May 31, the M’kor Shalom campus will come alive with the sounds of music, the beauty of the arts and the spirit of community as this synagogue presents M’korstock, a one day outdoor festival that honors the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock.

M’korstock, the first outdoor festival of its kind in the region, will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and be located on three acres of the M’kor Shalom campus at 850 Evesham Road. Music will include a variety of genres from folk, contemporary, pop, Jewish and gospel. There will be juried arts and crafts, children’s music and activities and ethnic foods. Fully coordinated and manned by volunteers, the admission ticket proceeds of $9 in advance and $10 at the festival entrance will benefit the Gift of Life Donor Program and Congregation M’kor Shalom.

There will be major entertainment on two outdoor stages. Nationally-known performers Grammy winner Julie Gold, Sheldon Low, Peri Smilow, Ross M. Levy and Stacy Beyer will perform along with local bands Rushmore and The Canon Logic. Also, the interfaith choirs of M’kor Shalom singing with the Antioch Baptist Church Unity Choir will sing in their beautiful blend of music and faith. Staging will be coordinated by Davis Concert Staging, Inc. (DCS) a non-profit organization that promotes performance of and education of quality music of all genres and is founded by two M’kor Shalom members, Ben and Jake Davis.

The juried art show will include mosaics, ceramics, jewelry, hand designed clothing, pottery, quilts, paintings, woodworking, etc. Exhibitors are invited to apply by submitting three photos of their work and one of their booth display to be juried. Interested vendors can contact Michelle Bross at mkorstock@gmail.com or Alison Schorr at 874–9090 for further information and an application.

In addition there will be a children’s area complete with music and craft-making activities. A wide variety of food will be available ranging from ethnic foods to standard festival fare along with Flying Fish Brewery.

Guests are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to relax on the grounds and enjoy the music, arts and food for hours. There will be offsite parking and free shuttle service throughout the day at a drop off area with handicap onsite parking. There is no rain date. In case of inclement weather, the entire event will move indoors.

Tickets will be priced at only $9 in advance and $10 at the door. Children 3 and under free. Tickets will be available online at www.mkorshalom.org. For more information, call 424–4220.
