“After last year’s success, we’re very excited to host another event and give more people the opportunity to see if they have what it takes to protect our community as a firefighter,” said Fire District Administrator Chris Chesner.

The Moorestown Fire Department and Lenola Fire Company will host a citizen fire academy at 6:30 p.m. from Friday, Aug. 5, through Tuesday, Aug. 9.

“After last year’s success, we’re very excited to host another event and give more people the opportunity to see if they have what it takes to protect our community as a firefighter,” said Fire District Administrator Chris Chesner.

The academy’s first day entails meeting instructors, an orientation of the fire department and a tour of all three fire stations in Moorestown. Other activities include learning how fires are extinguished, search and rescue, vehicle extrication with hydraulic rescue tools, raising ladders and forcible entry.

The academy emphasizes the critical need for volunteer firefighters. Participation is capped at 20 people and Moorestown residents are given a priority. To be considered, apply at https://moorestownfirefighter.org/citizens-fire-academy/. Go to www.moorestownfirefighter.org and click volunteer, then follow the link to the Citizen Fire Academy.
