The Burlington County Library will present “Picturing America: America’s History through our Nation’s Art,” 40 high-quality reproductions of selected masterpieces that will be on display at the Westampton facility from April 13 through May 31.
An exciting new initiative from the National Endowment for Humanities in cooperation with the American Library Association, Picturing America brings reproductions of notable American art into classrooms and libraries nationwide. The innovative program helps teach American history and provides students with a gateway to the humanities.
According to the National Endowment for the Arts website, “The Picturing America images span several centuries and feature artists ranging from early American Indian artisans to painters Mary Cassatt and Thomas Hart Benton; and photographers Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange, to architects Frank Lloyd Wright and William Van Alen. While these images are not intended to encapsulate the whole of American history or its art, they are a cohesive sampler of significant works that serves as a starting point for learning about both.”
Visitors will find the Picturing America images in the Burlington County Library’s Exhibit Room, where stories about history, science and culture are shared throughout the year.
The Burlington County Library is located at 5 Pioneer Boulevard off Woodlane Road in Westampton. For more information, call (609) 267–9660, or go to picturingamerica.neh.gov/
